"Back in one hour." The same can be said for the return of Christ as for a business: He will be back soon.
"And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. They also said, 'Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.' " (Acts 1.9-11)
Followers of Christ who anticipate the return of Christ base belief on reality, not philosophy. Real men watched a real risen Christ disappear from sight, and heard from a real angel. Witnessed by well over five hundred people (1 Corinthians 15.5-8), the resurrected Jesus, who stood physically present before His band of disciples, was elevated and removed from sight. As He left, so He one day will return. You have an angel's word on it, which carries the full authority of Creator God.
Meanwhile, as His early followers did, we devote ourselves to prayer (Acts 1.14), Spirit-led work and service, and confident expectation (Titus 2.13)
Resurrection Sunday was a few days ago, with all its energy, enthusiasm, and celebration. Most church worship services will be a bit more subdued and "normal" the following Sunday. But, this annual celebration ought to permeate personal and corporate lifestyle every day. The hopeful prospect of the return of the resurrected Christ is an electrifying, energizing force!
He is coming again. Are you ready and anticipating this greatest of events? Or, are you fearful and concerned? Today is the day to set straight that which is within your means and ability. Today is the day to live fully for Him.
