General Douglas MacArthur, during World War II, promised the peoples of the Philippine Islands that he would return. Holding to that promise, he eventually did so. A similar but far greater promise has been made that is destined to be fulfilled.

“Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.” (Acts 1.11)

The return of Christ is the
powerful incentive for expectancy, faithful living, and works of service and evangelism. The confident assurance that Jesus will literally return to the earth, stand on the Mount of Olives, and inaugurate a new and perfect world government, is the great hope and expectation of His disciples.

The resurrection power of Christ flows through the bodies of His people, providing energy and incentive for kingdom living and priorities (Acts 1.8). The assurance of the promise that He shall return resonates through this inner presence and power. He WILL return, and dedicated living and service truly matter.

World events and life circumstances easily cast a negative shadow, but we live, not under that shadow, but in the light of the coming King and kingdom. May that brightness permeate your life and experience this day, and every day.
