Few things are as empowering as the declaration, “I believe”. To believe is to be overwhelmingly persuaded; to be enlightened, and resolutely committed to a course of action.
"Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5.1-5)
A key belief premise is the belief “that Jesus is the Christ”. There is much confusion and ambiguity concerning “the Christ”. It isn’t a family last name, but rather a title for Messiah, or “sent one”. It is synonymous with Son of God. A resolute conviction and belief that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah), Son of God, is to be “born of God”. Belief always moves to action. Belief is not simply agreement with a fact; it is the compelling motivation for action. Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ will be led to undergo the new birth (John 3.3,5). And, whoever truly believes that Jesus is the Christ truly loves Him, and His Father. This love is expressed and evidenced through observing His commandments, which are not burdensome. And, this obedient love and faith positions us to overcome an anti-God world system and influence.
Belief must be based on truth. Real truth-based belief transforms. Real truth-based belief overcomes. Real truth-based belief is basis for confidence: “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” (1 John 5.13)
Nothing is easier than to become weary and disheartened. I know that as well as anyone. But, it is empowering faith based on truth that leads to victory. The evil system, in opposition to the system of God, takes many forms. In due time, it becomes evident. But, our fixation is on progress of our faith, love, and obedience. In the end, the overcomers truly win. As such, live confidently and victoriously today.
