It will work better if we break it. That may sound like unconventional and even unwise advise, but it really is true. "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise." (Psalm 51.17)

No one gets through life without being broken to some degree; some severely so. But, broken is good. When brokenness produces humility, we are in the very best position to become whole. God "will not despise" our brokenness brought to Him in humility.

A greater problem is not facing the truth about brokenness. A rich and self-sufficient church received some of Christ's greatest condemnation (Revelation 3.14-22), as did some smug religious leaders (i.e., Matthew 9.12) Although badly broken, they were blinded by a deceptive sense of wholeness.

Followers of Christ are often stereotyped as "perfect" people. Sadly, sometimes we believe the same. As a result, we hide our brokenness from others, and even ourselves, rather than offer it humbly and honesty to God. Brokenness that could be mended is left needlessly broken.

Whatever your brokenness today, know that God will not despise it as an offering, but will welcome and mend it. Wholeness awaits if we will only risk bringing our brokenness to Him.
